Today. Today. Today. Or Just Tuesday
By Tape Abuser | February 9, 2010
Today we came in and did Cursive. Yay! Sort of. Then we had DEAR, which was cool. After DEAR we talked about this new Reading Log we’re trying. It sounds awesome because we don’t have to write description or anything! THANK YOU! I always hated writing those. The only downside is that we’re trying to read an hour a day. 30 min. at school and 30min. at home. It sounds like a lot, but I think we can do it.
Then we went to Music and did more Square Dancing. I think that’s what you call it. But, about 50% of the time I think I’m right, I’m actually wrong. Hey! We worked on %s in Math today! So Music was fun and we got to watch a few seconds of this cool Chines New Year Lion. It was awesome!
When we got back from Music we finished up our conversation about the Reading Log, which kind of morphed into a conversation about Lit Circles at last moment. After, it was time for…duh duh duh duh…MATH. That was supposed to be dramatic. We worked with more fractions and got a head start on our homework.
Then we had Recess. Recess was just like Recess, so nothing interesting there.
When we got back in from Recess we finished our Math Lesson and went on to Biztown. Biztown seemed a lot like a vocabulary lesson for part of it because we kept learning all these words. I’m just happy we didn’t have to make a poster. That would have been hard. Also in Biztown, we worked with Dilemmas. That was fun. My group was debating over our answer and had to negotiate to get our innovative solution.
After Biztown I think we went to Lunch. Lunch was normal, old Lunch.
Then, after Lunch we went straight into more DEAR. We wanted to get at least 30 min. in for our new Reading Log. The classroom was really quiet, which was really cool. We all got a good amount of reading done. After DEAR we had about 5min. to talk with our new Reading Partners. That was SO fun!
By that time it was time to go. So we packed up as fast as we could and went out the door.
Have a great Tuesday and don’t forget to do your homework!

Marvelous Monday
By Erbear | February 8, 2010
Then we played a game called The Great Wall of China for Wellness. Everyone was so excited. In The Great Wall of China, once the tagger says to go, everyone else runs over to the other side and tries not to be tagged by the “guard.” It was cool.
Once we got done with that, we went inside, we got caught up with our sub Mrs. Parker. We told her what we did when she wasn’t at Stafford since she retired from being our librarian. *sigh…*
We did a little math until recess. Ah, recess. We work hard as 5th graders. Why are we the ones, besides 4th graders, that only get 2 recesses? No one knows.
Anyways, after recess, (no lap!) we did Art Lit. This time, we made quilts. Our “interpretation” of quits. Because, of course they couldn’t give us cloth and a sewing needle. That would be crazieness! So we just did it with paper and glue, and a sharpie to make stitches. After…
Lunch! Yum! For hot lunch, there was French Toast, and something else. I can’t remember. More recess. It was Bee-uuti-ful outside. Sunny, but not to hot. *smile*
Writers Workshop was next. You could either revise or type your All Summer in a Dayother ending, or your book review for The Graveyard Book.
We cleaned up a bit, did jobs, and scrambled to the buses. And pick-ups.

Weirdo Wednesday
By Erbear | February 3, 2010
Next we amazing P.E.! In P.E., we played Everybody’s It. It’s like tag, but every body’s it — so much fun! Then, Ms. Ellis, our physical education teacher, had us doing whatever we could do using the jumping rope. Then we practiced badmitten for the rest of P.E.
After that, Ms. Bondi gave us the end of the unit test in math. Ms. Bondi said we all did a very good job. Yay us! Then we started a long Biztown lesson. We talked more about how to write checks, deposit tickets, and how to keep up with our check register. It’s hard stuff, but important to learn! Soon, we will be applying for our jobs! Yippee!
Lunch was a reliever! 5th graders are growing fast … they need to eat a lot and often!
After lunch, we finished our Biztown lesson with the end of the unit test. We did it together, it was very hard!
We all wrote our homework down in our planners, packed up our backpacks, did our jobs, and off to the busses we went. What a fast day!

Tasty Tuesday!
By Erbear | February 2, 2010
After recess, we raced around the track. Then we went inside to eat snack and do read aloud. We finished our book, called The Graveyard Book. Once we finished, we talked about writing book reviews for the book. After that, Ms. Bondi gave us a choice of starting our book reviews, or revising our All Summer in a Day alternative endings. Then, Lunch! Lunch was loud.
We came back, and did Biztown for the rest of the day. We talked more about writing checks. Then we packed up and went home.
