September Information

Room 14 News
September, 2014

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to second grade! I’ve had an opportunity to meet many of you already and hope to meet the rest of you soon. I have so many things to share with you at the beginning of the year. This post is one way to let you know some of the basic information about our class. I’ll be giving more specific information about our Room 14 schedule and curriculum on Curriculum Night which will be Thursday, September 18.  I hope that you will be able to attend.

I’m glad that another exciting school year is underway. For the first few weeks of school, your child and I will be getting to know each other, establishing our routines, clarifying expectations, working on academics, and creating a safe community.

Arrival and Departure

If you drive your child to school, please arrive no later than 7:50. We get started right away. Due to security reasons, if you pick up your child after school, please wait in the library. We’ll usually be there right at 2:10. If you need to pick up your child early, please check in at the office. Throughout the day all volunteers and visitors must check in at the office and wear a badge in the building.

Bus Notes

Please be sure to send a bus note if your child has different end-of-the day arrangements. It is difficult to make phone contact with parents.

Stafford has a five day schedule for specials, such as music, PE and library.  The schedule is as follows:  Monday-Music, Tuesday-PE, Wednesday-Library, Thursday-Music, and Friday-PE.  Specials are from 12:25-12:55 each day.  Please remember to send your child in shoes appropriate for PE on PE days.  If it’s more convenient, your child may keep a pair of PE shoes in the classroom.

I will provide time to enjoy a nutritious snack. We will have snack time each morning. Your child is responsible for bringing his or her own healthy snack, and please, no sugary drinks.

Parent Helpers

I will definitely need parent helpers! If you will be able to help in class, please sign up on Curriculum Night. I appreciate the dedication and incredible support parent helpers offer the children at Stafford School.

Please let me know if you have questions about any of this information. I can be reached by phone, e-mail, or child-delivered notes. I’ll respond as quickly as I can, but usually I am not able to check my e-mails or voice mail until after the students leave for the day.

To ensure that your child arrives at the intended destination, please contact the office if there is a change in your child’s after school plans. The office will deliver a bus note.

I’m eager to work with you and your child and am looking forward to an exciting school year. Until formal homework begins, please have your child read every night. A good reader reads every day! A review of one digit addition and subtraction would be helpful as well.
