Happy New Year!

Welcome back! I am so happy to be back at school and seeing all of the wonderful smiling faces. We are already working hard here in third grade. We have been working on our multiplication facts, reading great books and finishing up our Native American stories. Here are a few pictures of us during Writer’s Workshop. I am so proud of how hard we have been working and the kind students that I have this year! Here’s to a great year!

**Salmon release video will be coming soon. It has been so much fun watching them grow and move through the salmon life cycle!

Mobile Museum

We had our first experience with the Mobile Museum yesterday. A woman named Linda from the Washington County Museum came to our school and taught us all about the Kalapuya Native Americans who used to live here right by the Tualatin River. We learned how they found food, cooked their food, built their houses, moved from place to place to find food and how they made their clothing. After Linda gave her presentation we got to rotate through four stations and do some hands-on activities. We learned lots of great information!

Salmon Experts

As our salmon unit comes to an end (we still have plenty of salmon eggs waiting to hatch though……) we took a few days to show off our salmon expertise. We worked really hard together in small groups creating Salmon Posters that showcased all of the learning that took place the last few weeks. Awesome job Third Grade! You guys are definitely salmon experts!

Bridges, Bridges, Bridges!

We have been having so much fun learning about bridges. We have learned about the different types of bridges, the different ways they open and close, the names of all of the Portland bridges and why bridges are important to the City of Portland. I wish we could have ended our bridge study with our Jet Boat Field Trip but we will save that for a sunny day in May! Our Bridge Expo was a great success. It was so much fun seeing all of the different creative ideas students and their parents came up with. Check out some pictures from our Bridge Expo and from some of our bridge lessons in class!

Our First Few Days!

We have been having so much fun here in Third Grade. We have been learning about our classroom, our classmates and how to be kind members of our classroom/school community. I am so happy to see how gracious, humble and kind my third graders are. They are treating each other with respect and kindness and going out of their way to make people feel comfortable. Here are a few pictures from our first few days.

Weather, Data and Math

In the past few weeks we have been learning about weather and climate in different regions of the world. For three weeks we tracked the weather in West Linn, Shanghai, China, and Tanzania, Africa. Then in Math we have been learning about data and graphing. So we took these two things that we have been learning about and created our own Line Plot Graphs showing our data that we collected about the weather in our three locations. The students did awesome with their weather tracking, their data collecting and their graph making.
