Wonderful Writers

Today during Writer’s Workshop, we were working on our Autobiographies. We started by making a timeline of 5-8 important events in our life. Then we chose four of those events and made a mind map of those major events. We then made an outline which helped us write our rough draft. Students were editing with their peers and then did their final editing with Allie Jensen and myself. I was so proud of their writing today. Here are a few pictures to document our wonderful writing.

Name That Bridge

In class today we submitted a name for the new transit bridge that is being built over the Willamette River. I thought I would share the TriMet link so you can submit a name idea from home as well.

We are bridge building engineers!!

Today we had a blast building bridges using Kinex. We could either use a guided picture to help us build or we could create a new bridge using our imagination. We worked as teams to create bridges that could stand on their own and some of our bridges were able to carry vehicles. It was awesome! Great job 3rd grade. It was so neat to see your creations today!

Wet and Rainy Fun!

Today was quite the exciting day. We ventured out to the Willamette River and boarded the Jet Boats. Although we were quite wet by the time we arrived back at the docks, we still had an amazing time learning about the Portland Bridges, the animals who call the river “home” and other interesting features along the river. We got to see bald eagles, herons, an osprey nest, the Willamette Falls, the new Milwaukie Light Rail Bridge being built and so much more. Here are some pictures from our trip!

First Weeks of School

We have been having so much fun learning here in Room 4. We have been learning a lot about each other and what makes each of us unique and special. In Math we have been talking about place value and expanded form of numbers. In Writing we have learned about generating writing ideas, writing complete paragraphs and building stamina during Writer’s Workshop. In Reading we have been learning all about CAFE (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, Expanding vocabulary). We have learned different strategies to use while we are reading and how to choose Just Right Books. Wow, that’s a lot in just six short days. I hope you enjoy some of our pictures:)
