Wise’s Newsletter

June 6, 2011

Hi all!

Can you believe this is my last newsletter?  I can’t!  This year has flown by and the kids have learned so much!  Wow…I AM so proud of them!  We did our very last reading response journal today.  What is that you ask?  You did see it at the fall conferences and at Penguin day, if your child showed it to you!  Once a week, the children would write about a just right book from their book box that they had taken home and read with you.  We talked about character, setting, inference and asking questions as mini lessons for their writing.  This was also a time when we worked on spelling, capital and lowercase letters in the correct spots, and punctuation.  We also worked on handwriting skills and neatness.  The reading response journal is coming home today.  There are some empty pages at the end where I encourage you to do over the summer with books the children have read.  Perhaps just do it once a week, as we did here at school, but definitely do it. It will help them be ready for school next year!  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Angie Wise

Reading and Writing

Please continue to read and write about what the kids have read this summer.  Use the reading response journal that the children are bringing home today.  Also, please go to the West Linn library and sign up for their summer reading program.  You make your own goal and if you reach it you get tons of prizes such as Blazer tickets, Timber tickets, Coldstone Creamery coupon, a book and tons more.  It is WELL WORTH IT!

Pajama Day

The kids have been asking for a pajama day all year!  They have seen other grade levels that have had pajama day throughout the year and really want to do it too.  So, on Thursday, June 9, the kids may wear their pajamas to school.  They may also bring a stuffed animal and/or blanket to cuddle up and read with that day.

Upcoming Dates

June 7:  End of year party.  9:20-10:30.

June 8:  Field day.  If you can volunteer for this day, please let the office know!

June 9:  Pajama day.  Kids may bring extra snacks, blankets and stuffed animals.

June 10  Last day of school.  Dismissal is at 10:40.
