Fall Party

When:  Wed. Oct. 31

8-9:15 AM

What:  Halloween Party

Where:  Room 23

Who: The second graders and any volunteers!

Here’s a note from Ellen Gass, our party coordinator:

Dear Parents,
Our first of 4 or 5 annual class parties will be the Halloween Party scheduled for next Wednesday, Oct 31st, from 8-9:15am. Children can wear light costumes to school that day (please no make-up or masks), and must bring regular clothes to change into after the party’s conclusion.

In order to help with the purchase of supplies, snacks, etc for all the parties, we’re asking each family to contribute $15 for the year. As soon as possible, please send a check made out to Stafford Primary to school with your child in an envelope marked with my name — Ellen Gass. Angie will collect these from the kids over the next few days. Thank you in advance for helping out in this way!

If you’re interested in volunteering to assist during the party, please drop me an email at ellen@ellenurbani.com. I’ll send out party information that way, and volunteers can plan to gather Wednesday morning at 7:45am to set up and coordinate before the arrival of the children.

I appreciate your help!

Fieldtrip Oct. 25

Our fieldtrip is this Thursday, Oct. 25 from 8:30-11:30.  Parents who are going, please be here 5 minutes early.  You will be in charge of a group of students to sit near (please make sure they are bottom to bottom and back to back on the bus.  You will make sure they are respectful in the theatre with closed lips, on their bottoms, nice clapping.  Thank you for helping to teach safety and character traits to our children!  Thank you Ellen Gass, Wendy Ingle, Sara Heilig, Julie Hoem, Nancy Buchwald, Cathy Henninger, Chris Stecher and Liisa Pruzak.  Parents who did not get to travel will get first dibs on the next field trip.

**I do have room for one more parent.  It will cost $8.00.  The first one back to me may go!  I will let you know!

Concentration:  word work

You may notice that your children bring home some word work that we do in class every now and then.  One of these is called “Word work concentration”.  It is like memory.  I suggest that your children keep these words to practice and play with throughout the year.  You can see how simply it is made.  You can make it with words that you notice your child needs help with spelling with at home.  I’ve included a blank word wall concentration on the back of this newsletter.  Please make copies and use as needed!  It will help your child tremendously with spelling and reading our word wall sight words.  Thank you!

Please write the words on your at home word wall.  Please play a game with your child.

Scholastic Book Fair

The book fair is at school this week.  You may come in with your child before, after school, or during their lunch recess from 11:10-11:40 to purchase books, or you may send money and they may buy books during their lunch recess.  It’s a great way to get books in kids’ hands!

Needed!

Please send in envelopes.  The kids use them in Daily 7 when they write letters to each other as well as a place to put their word wall concentration words so as not to lose them.  If you can donate any envelopes (old or new), then please send them in!  Thank you!

Have a great week!

Hi all!

What great conferences!  I really enjoyed meeting with each of you to discuss goals for your child for the year.  I know we can do it as a team!

Fieldtrip Oct. 25

Please send in your $8.00 and permission slip for the fieldtrip to see “Duck for President” if you have not yet done so!  The parents who are going are listed below.  They also need to send in $8.00 for the play.

Ellen Gass, Wendy Ingle, Sara Heilig, Julie Hoem, Nancy Buchwald, Cathy Henninger, Chris Stecher and Liisa Pruzak.

Thank you!

Word Study Strategy

You might see your child get a paper (look at back of this newsletter) with some words written on it.  This is their individual word list based on what they can read and write in class.  If they are getting this paper, then they need help with spelling the word.  Please have them do what it says on the paper and then send it back in when done!  Each child is at their own “individual” level in spelling, reading, and writing!

Word Work (spelling, writing and reading)

Please write the words on your at home word wall.  Please play a game with your child.

Art Literature

Art lit. is an amazing program that we have at our school where parents learn about an artist and then teach it to our children.  If you would like to volunteer with art lit., please come next week, Monday, Oct. 22 at 12:15 to help.  I know we need your help!

Conferences

Thank you to the 8 families I have met with thus far.  It is so nice to make some goals together and get to know you and your child a bit better!  I will meet with the other 22 families this week!  I look forward to it!

Snack

If you would like to send a healthy snack to school with your child then that is fine.  If you choose not to, then that is fine too.  Please talk to your child if they have a snack or not.  Many are saying they do not and I wonder if Ms. Barbour’s basket looks more enticing then the snack that was sent with them?  Remember, Ms. Barbour’s basket is for those that forget snack, not a daily occurance.  Thank you!

Fieldtrip Oct. 25

Please read the back of this newsletter about our fieldtrip to see the play “Duck for President”, which is also a book.  Please fill out the attached permission slip and send in as soon as possible, with $8.00 for the trip for your child.  If you would like to attend, please fill out the back of this newsletter and send it in.  I will take the first 8 adults that return the paper on the back.  Of course we will have more field trips and I will keep track of who attends so that we can all take a turn.  Thank you!

Homework Folders

Due to the 2 day week for the kids, I will not send home homework folders.  Please continue to read over the long week!

Word Work (spelling, writing and reading)

We will have the same words this week since the students are only here 2 days.

Hi Everyone!

Homework folders will go home tomorrow!  No worries tonight…just reading!

Conferences

Thank you to all who signed up for conferences, as we start this week!  If you have not yet done signed up yet, please do. Directions are on the front page of the school website.  I also sent home a hard copy of the open times with your child today.  If you need to just write on that and send it back in, then that is ok too.

Homework Folders

Thank you to all who sent the homework folders back in on Friday.  I do believe this will work out best so that the kids can practice their work over the week and have a free weekend with you.  I do need your help, though.  Please, initial and star the top of the homework pack when you have checked it with your child.  I believe this will help them correct it right there and understand their mistake, if they made one.  If your child finishes the homework packet early, then please send it in…even if it is not Friday!

Thank you!

Word Work (spelling, writing and reading)

Remember parents, please write the word wall words on your child’s “At Home Word Wall” that was sent home last Monday.  This word wall stays at home to help your child with reading and spelling these sight words!  This week’s words are:

Parent Volunteers

A list of the October parent volunteers is on the back of this newsletter.  Please let me know if it is not right for some reason. I really, really appreciate all of your help!  Thank you so much!

Have a great week!
