Great Person Unit

We just met Albert Einstein today!  Jack Ulwelling did a fabulous job of BEING Albert Einstein.  He even made jokes to the second graders (as Albert, talking to kids).  He related to the second graders by talking about when he was a boy, what he liked to do, even how he dressed (no socks and shoes untied).  Nice work Jack! You taught us a lot about your Great Person.

  1. Write your FINAL report on INDEX CARDS that were provided.  If you need more index cards, please let me know!
  2. PRACTICE your oral presentation with your family.  You may use your cards, but remember to look at the audience.
  3. Think of an outfit to wear.  Be creative.  You do NOT need to buy anything!
  4. Fill out your GREAT PERSON REFLECTION PAGE.  It is in the Homework Packet.

*Please check the back of this newsletter for your Great Person presentation time.

World Education Games

We are practicing math, language arts and science on line to compete against kids around the world.  Please go onto my blog and practice these games so that we do a great job next week.  Keep track of how many times you play the games inside your homework packet.

Conference sign ups

Please sign up for a conference!  Please go to my blog and click on Conference Sign-ups (on the right sidebar) to get to the link.  If you need help, just email me and I’d be happy to assist you.

Our spring conferences will include your child!  The conference time that you select will be the “official time” with me. However, you will need to include 30-40 minutes before your scheduled time to celebrate your child’s learning as a family.  It will be an Open House format.  EXAMPLE:  If you sign up for a conference time beginning at 3:00, you will arrive at 2:20 or 2:30. The first part of the conference will be led by your child in our classroom.  The scheduled time at 3:00 will be a conference with me.

Word Work (spelling, writing and reading)

Hi everyone!

Thank you to all the dads and granddads who came in for our Valentine day breakfast!  It was a lot of fun eating with you, reading stories out loud and playing bingo!  I also want to thank each and everyone of you for my Valentines!  You sure made my day “sweet”!  Thank you so much.

Fondly,

Ms. Wise

Parent Volunteer Needed!

We STILL need a volunteer to be trained and to teach our class a nutrition unit!  You would be learning with the other volunteers in the other second grade classrooms for 5-6, 45 minute lessons, and then teach what you learned to our class.  It can be done (and is more fun) when there is more then one volunteer.  I will work around your schedule for when you teach the lessons. Thank you in advance!

Valentine’s Day Breakfast!

It’s our second grade tradition! Our Valentine’s Day Breakfast is Thursday, February 14th, from 8:00 am to about 9:00 AM. We want to invite our dads to help us celebrate this special day. Of course grandfathers, uncles or moms can fill in if dads aren’t available. Our parents will be serving breakfast and a wonderful party crew will be taking care of the food details. Our breakfast will include waffles with your choice of syrup or strawberries and whipped cream, milk and/or juice. Along with a few other activities, we’ll play a Valentine bingo game and have one of our dads read us a story after the breakfast. Hopefully, you can save the date!    The volunteer list is due Feb. 7.  It was sent home last Thursday.  I gave your child another one today if they asked for it.

Valentine’s Day:  Feb. 14

We will be opening valentines on that day.  Please have your Valentine’s written and brought in by Feb. 13.  If you write Valentine’s, please write one to everyone in the class. A class list is on the back of this newsletter.

Upcoming Dates:

Feb. 5:  Wear Green!  This is our second grade color!  Each grade level is wearing their color today to celebrate our Author visit:  Dallas Clayton.

Feb. 7:  Valentine day volunteer list due for dads pancake breakfast! Check this packet!
