Wise Owls Newsletter March 5, 2018

Hello all!
Conferences are just around the corner the third week in March! Sign ups go live tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 7 at 8:00 AM. Go on to the school website to sign up or call the front office if you cannot figure it out. We are doing so much in school right now and you can support your child in a variety of ways. Here’s how:
1. Writing and Science: Ecosystem Research on Animal:
We have researched our animal via the internet and books. We used sticky notes and wrote notes about the important information we gathered on our animal. We then wrote a rough draft at school from all of our research. We are now in the process of typing it into Google Docs on the computer. PARENTS, YOUR JOB IS TO GO ON GOOGLE DOCS WITH YOUR CHILD AND HELP THEM DO THE FINAL EDITING: PERIODS, CAPITALS, SPELLING, ETC. Adding adjectives and exciting vocabulary only makes the animal slides come to life more! You may help them change the pictures, add videos or change background. Enjoy what they have researched and learned here at school!

2. SUBTRATION: We are working on taking away two digit and 3 digit numbers. Drawing out your tens and ones really help your child to understand the algorithm. IXL F and H are best for practicing this. You can also make up your own subtraction problems for your child to practice or google problems on line.
3. IXL: Solving story problems. Make sure your child has blank or scrap paper to do the work on! They need to “verify” or double check their work to make sure the math is correct!
Letter E: numbers: 12, 18, 20
Letter I: number: 5
F: 10
G: 9, 14, 16
H: 9
J: 5
4. Spelling: We are on week 16 of spelling city. Go on line to find your spelling words! Play a game and take a practice test!
5. Art and Volunteers: We are also doing art to go along with our animal unit. If you can help at all next week, anytime, please email me when (days and times). I would love your help with the backgrounds of murals for each ecosystem and adding 3-D plants!
The music informance is this Thursday, March 8 at 1:30 in the music room. We are looking forward to seeing all of you. The zoo fieldtrip is next Friday, March 16 from 8:30-12:15. Remember to bring a packed lunch and snack to eat on the bus!
Fondly,
Angie Wise
