P.E. Blog Survey

Check out the P.E. Blog created by Mrs. Lassell!  On it are two surveys that she would like you to take.  One is on how you’re liking P.E. class so far this year, and the other is on the skeletal system.  Click on “Categories” and then “Survey.”

Welcome to Room 17!

4th grade is a big year:  students are now considered to be “upper elementary” students and not primary.  Middle school is just around the corner and much more responsibility is placed on your child to follow through with their work. They need to learn how to manage themselves and take responsibility for their learning.  This can be a big adjustment, but also very enjoyable for kids.  That’s why 4th grade is often a memorable year for many adults.

I love teaching 4th grade!  I really enjoy adding to the work and guidance you provide at home, teaching children how to be thoughtful, and caring citizens, both in the world and in our classroom. My teaching style balances character education with relevant information your child needs to be a successful student.  I strive to make our classroom safe, fun and creative.

Please know I will do everything I can to ensure your child has a great year.  If any questions, concerns or comments should arise, please do not hesitate to contact me.

EARTH DAY PROJECT

Check out the great earth day movie that students wrote, practiced and performed this week! Simply click on the link at the side of this page and enter the password. This movie was created by students in our class, who volunteered much of their free time to complete this project. I was so impressed by  how well these fourth graders worked together and took pride in this piece of work. Enjoy and happy earth day!

Field trips and book project

Greetings parents,

There are  two field trip forms that went home last week; one is for the Children’s Theater Field Trip next Friday and the other is for the Metro Native Plant Center.  Attached is a letter that went home on Friday about the Native Plant Center field trips.  Please send both of those permission slips and the fee with your child to school before Friday this week.  If you need another copy of either, let me know.  Also, if you’re having trouble paying for either of the field trips, there is scholarship money available.  Contact me or Judy in the office for more information.

On another note, students have a book project to do this week for their homework.  They are designing a picture book based on the novel that they read.  Please help support your child in completing this project by Friday (of Monday at the latest, if they need extra time.)  If you have any questions, let me know!

Thank you,
Tina Allahverdian

Conferences and Writing Assessment

Greeting fourth grade parents,

We now have a new way to do conference sign ups!  You simply go to our classroom blog (http://blogs.stafps.wlwv.k12.or.us/staff/AllahveT/) and click on “Conference sign-ups.”  Once you’re on the sign-up page, follow directions at the top.  One word of advice:  read through all the directions first before you enter your name, because it can be a little confusing.  If you have trouble, just e-mail me with the day and time and I can sign you up.

On another note, students received their state writing assessment prompts yesterday.  Please talk with your son or daughter this weekend about the ideas they have for answering the prompts.  Also, be sure they get a good night’s rest as well as a nutritious breakfast and snack on the days of the test.  You can also remind them to think positively – they have ALL made tremendous progress in their writing this year.  I am very proud of them! As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you and have a wonderful long weekend!
Tina

Welcome To Our New Classroom Blog!

Greetings 4th grade students and families!  This blog is a place for you to learn more about our classroom and all that is going on in room 17.  I will post newsletters, weekly homework assignments, and other important updates.  I’m hoping that over time, students and I will develop the blog to be a useful communication tool for parents, students and teachers.

Enjoy!
